The arsenal of the loaded Indian contingent comprised of Karuna John, Onir, Venkat Ananth, Sanjay Rajoura, Sabbah Haji, Jugal Mody, Annie Zaidi, Smita Choudhary and Raheel Khurshid.
The two day event revolved around daring panel discussions, informal side conversations, free lunches and soul searching qawallis and songs.
Panel discussions thrashed online activism, cyber bullying, Twitter as the new newsroom, Viral Videos, Online Comics, Corporate Blogging, Brand building, role of social media in education, party politics & social media (bringing PTI and MQM face to face) and other topics.
Nadeem F Paracha, Tammy Haq, Mohsin Sayeed, Beena Sarwar, Marvi Sirmed, Jehan Ara, Mira Hashmi, Dr Awab Alvi, Syed Ali Raza Abidi a.k.a SARA, Sabeen Mahmud, Yusra Askari, Raza Rumi, Bina Shah, Mehreen Kasana, Anthony Permal, Mansoor Ali Khan, Babrus Khan, Ramish Safa Mobin, Shahjahan Chaudhary, Salman Abedin, Imtiaz Noor and many others including Ali Gul Pir (Wadera ka Beta) and Sohaib Athar (The man who live tweeted the Osama Bin Laden raid) participated in the event.
Despite this heavy presence of Pakistani notables, we had no match for the Indian secret weapon Sanjay Rajoura. I spotted him several times during the first day secretly gathering intelligence material for his next day performance. He went nuclear with his stage comedy on the second day. It was brilliant but yet non-settling for audience who kept jumping on their seats with several spells of laughter bursts.
Besides panel discussions, Fareed Ayaz and Abu Muhammad thrilled the audience with their qawalli at the end of first day’s proceedings, where as Dr Taimur Rahman, Assistant Professor at LUMS, entertained with his Laal Band performance at the end of the second day.
Senator Rehman Malik who helped the organizers in getting the VISAs for our Indian guests, also graced the occasion on July 15,, 2012. On their way home, the Indian guests were surprised when they got Mangoes from the Senator. Here is what Venkat Ananth tweeted about the departure on July 16, 2012:
“We were taken to the FIA office and after 5 minutes, were told about the mangoes that Rehman Malik gifted us. Much laughter”
I was lucky enough to get the invite on time. Thanks to Sabeen Mahmud, Shoaib Taimur, Faisal Kapadia and Sundus Rasheed. Its been a wonderful experience attending the event and meeting new people.
I would like to dedicate my latest wisdumb to this event.
